TRAVEL - My Little Break in Paris

On Saturday I got up at the crack of dawn for an exciting little journey over to Paris. My Little break was made possible by Eurostar who run trains to France and Belgium from London, Ebbsfleet and Ashford. Really handy for a quick getaway. The only time I have been to the centre of Paris before, it was 5am in the morning and we only got out the car for a quick walk underneath the Eiffel Tower. On this visit I intended to cram in as much as possible.

I took my boyfriend along with me so as much as I would have loved to do the Fashion Bloggers Itinerary, I opted for the cultural route instead. I've always been a bit of an architecture appreciator so it was the perfect location to fuel my passions. We were lucky enough to get 1st class seats and it really is worth the money if you can afford it. Wide, comfy seats with cushions so you can snooze if you want to. Oh and lovely food served while you travel too.

We had a few places we knew we wanted to see and decided on a route. If you want to see just how far I walked and what I saw on the way, I have created a little Google map which shows my route starting at the station and walking anti-clockwise on a circular route around the main part of the city. Zoom in on the map to see it in more detail. Highlights included The Louvre, The Sacré-Coeur Basilica and eating the most amazing hot dog in the park.

Refusing to use the Metro was a good way to see the city. We saw a bit of everything, not just the glamorous side, but also the rundown and very rustic parts. We saw the real people of Paris as well as the tourist magnet spots.

Tips for visiting Paris:
  • Always keep some change handy. You have to pay to us most toilets including those in cafes
  • Wear comfy shoes and walk around to see the best of the city
  • Expect street traders to hassle you in the touristy areas. Be assertive
  • Ensure you make time to visit a bakery... yum yum
